Cortona

The architecture of Cortona has an aspect medieval with its narrow and stiff streets located on an hillside, offering a sight on all the valley Val di chiana.
Parts of the Etruscan wall can still be seen today at the base of the current wall. Inside the Palazzo Pretorio, there is an Etruscan Museum which exposes objects Etruscan, Roman, Egyptian, as well as the art and the objects worked at the medieval ages and the Rebirth.
There are certain Etruscan necropolis to see close to Cortona.
The artistic treasures of the city are two panels of Fra Angelico in the museum diocesan, a Madonna and her childs with saints. The same artist made also the frescos above the entry of the church of San Domenico. The church Santa Maria delle Grazie is also interessing.
